The Athletic Department and Athletic Boosters Association at George Mason High School, together with the Lubnow family, are pleased to announce that "The Judy Lubnow Mustang Spirit and Service Scholarship" is being renamed as "The Judy Lubnow Champion of Character Award." Several years ago, the GMHS Athletic Department aligned itself with the NAIA Champions of Character program that focuses on the qualities of: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Leadership, and recognizes one student-athlete from each team per season that best demonstrates these qualities. These elements of character were also represented in Judy's life and in the scholarship funded by her family and friends in her honor. Our decision to rename the scholarship brings increased attention and commitment to the goal of the Athletic Department to emphasize development and demonstration of character both on and off the field.
Beginning this year, any student who is awarded the Champion of Character Award at any point during their time at Mason will be considered among the finalists during their senior year for a $1000/year, 4 year renewable scholarship funded in Judy's honor. To celebrate the combination of these awards, the Lubnow family has committed to provide additional support of the scholarship, and will recognize the first $5000 in donations received to the scholarship fund in the month of May 2017 with its own additional matching contribution. Donations can be made here or by check written to "GMHS Athletic Boosters" with a note designating the contribution to the "Judy Lubnow Scholarship."
