A predicted schedule for Thursday and Friday's camp this week!

George Mason HS Satellite Camp Predicted Schedule

 

August 3:

8:30am- Check in with GMHS Coaching Staff Starts, Must have: VHSL Physical & Concussion Acknowledgment Form

8:45am – Camp Staff arrives at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School

9:00am – Staff introductions and warm up

9:15am – Introduction to standing float serve

9:15-9:25am – Partner serving with back step for success, forward step for fail

9:30am – Introduction to jump float serve

9:30-9:40am – Partner serving with back step for success, forward step for fail

9:40-9:50am – Zone practice serving

9:50-10:00am – Around the world serving

10:05am – Introduction to SMASH Passing

10:05-10:20am – Partner Passing

  1. 5 L knee off center, 5 R knee off center

  2. 10 straight on, 10 L shuffle, 10 R shuffle

  3. Pass back and forth when done

10:20-10:30am – ‘Croquet’

10:30-10:45am – Pass off of live serves

10:45 -10:55am – Servers vs Passers

11:00am – Introduction to setting

11:00-11:10am – Partner catch and release, progress to partner setting

11:10-11:20am – Setting off of coaches toss

11:20-11:30am – Setting triangle

11:30-11:40am – Setting Challenge

11:40-11:55am – Serve, Pass, Set; coaches enter for missed serves or shank pass

12:00-1:00pm LUNCH ON YOUR OWN

1:05-1:15pm – Warm up

1:15-1:25pm – ‘Tennis/Don’t Drop the Baby’

1:25pm – Introduction to attacking

1:25-1:35pm – Partner arm swing; bodyline, wrist away, cross body

1:35-1:45pm – Self-toss to attack

1:45-1:55pm – Hitting lines off of coaches toss

2:00-2:10pm – Hit off of live set, coaches toss to setter

2:10-2:25pm – Pass to attack, coaches enter for missed serve

2:30pm – Introduction to defense

2:35-3:05pm – Defensive progression

  1. Level 1 (Off center dig)

  2. Level 2 (Shin sprawl)

  3. Level 3 (Barrel roll)

  4. Extended (3 line pursuit)

3:10-3:20pm – Overhead defense with “Ready/Go” cue

3:20-3:45pm – Defensive groups line and cross

3:45-3:50pm – Questions and review

3:50-3:55pm – Stretch

4:00pm 4:00pm - End and Dismissal (Walk home, parent pick up or other arranged ride)

 

August 4:

8:45am – Camp Staff arrives at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School

9:00-9:10am – Warm up with ‘barnacle’

9:15am – Introduction to blocking

9:15-9:25am – Blocking footwork and block trips

9:25-9:35am – Block trips with middle cue

9:35-9:45am – Review back court defense

9:45-10:00am – Block defense vs coach down ball

10:05-10:15am – Serving review and partner serving

10:15-10:25am – Around the world

10:25-10:35am – SMASH passing review and partner passing

10:35-10:50am – Pass off of live serves

10:50-11:00am – Setting review and partner setting

11:00-11:10am – Set off of coaches toss

11:10-11:20am – Attacking review and partner arm swing

11:20-11:30am – Self toss to attack

11:35-11:45am – Pass to attack with servers and setter

11:45-12:00pm – Review of floor defense with abbreviated defensive progression

12:00-1:00pm- LUNCH ON YOUR OWN

1:00-1:05pm – Warm-up

1:05-1:20pm – ‘Tennis/Don’t Drop the Baby (survivor)’

1:25-1:45pm – Pass to attack off of live serve with blockers and defense

1:50-2:25pm – Scrimmage games to 15, coaches enter for missed serves

2:30-2:45pm - ‘Blob and blob team’ competition

2:50-3:10pm – Competitive ‘queens’ (individual points)

3:15-3:55pm – Team tournament to 15 (winning team moves up, loser moves down)

3:55-4:00pm – Stretch

4:00pm - End and Dismissal (Walk home, parent pick up or other arranged ride)

See you Monday Morning for Try Outs!

 

*Please note many water breaks are scheduled! They are just not printed in order to keep this schedule on one page of paper!

*No athlete can participate without having a VHSL Physical on file or turning one in prior to participating the day(s) of camp. Same goes for the Concussion Acknowledgment Forms!

*Lunch is NOT provided!

*If you can't make tryouts, but are interested in still being part of the program please let a coach know via email or Schoology message! Manager positions are a possibility! 

*MUST HAVE ALL PAPERWORK FOR BOTH CAMP AND/OR TRYOUTS. Confused about paperwork, message a coach on Schoology or via FCCPS email!
