The information below comes from our Athletic Handbook -
Away Contest Procedures and Transportation
Transportation to all athletic contests is provided by the school via school bus, commercial coach, or rented vehicle. All athletes and support personnel must travel to and from the contest in school transportation. Athletes are not permitted to drive themselves, drive other students, or ride with other students to athletic contests. Exceptions may be granted for exceptional circumstances, and only if a written request is made to the director of athletics by the parent/guardian at least one school day in advance of the trip. The request for exception will be judged individually and may or may not be granted. ...
Some guidelines to help you navigate any requests you must make:
1. The request must be made in writing to the Athletic Director (email is great) the school day before the contest. This insures adequate time for me to contact the parents if necessary, clarify the request, and report to the coaches what will be happening.
2. The request is only to be granted when athletes are not returning to Falls Church, or would be returning on a different schedule. For instance, a request for a JV lacrosse player to stay to watch the Varsity game and then go home with his parents would likely be denied. A request to pick up the player immediately following the JV game could be approved.
3. Requests should be made for “exceptional circumstances” as stated in the policy. Regular, or frequent, requests to get home for “homework”, indicates a problem with academic requirements and time management. In that case, further discussions would ensue about whether traveling was appropriate at all for that particular student.
4. Students may only travel with their parent/guardian. Requests to ride with anyone else would need to involve “exceptional circumstances”.
It is our desire to provide safe and efficient transportation, and supervision, for all of our athletes when they travel. Thank you for understanding that these policies are in place in order to help us do that.
